FANTOM Students Participate in First Young NHL Network Conference in Cambridge

FANTOM students recently took part in the first in-person conference of the Young NHL Network (yNHL), held at Queens’ College, University of Cambridge in October 2025. The two-day event brought together early-career researchers and clinicians from across Europe to share ideas and advance research in paediatric and young adult non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), including rare subtypes such as ALK-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALK+ ALCL).

Two FANTOM-funded PhD students, Enrique Abarca Ríos and Nicola Mora, presented their current research projects during the “work-in-progress” session, engaging an audience of peers and senior researchers in productive discussion on novel approaches to NHL.

In addition to scientific contributions, FANTOM student Carla Vázquez Amos played a key role in organising the event in her capacity as Treasurer of the Young NHL Network.

The conference programme featured sessions on:

  • Research presentations from early-career scientists
  • Global health and clinical trials in lymphoma
  • Science communication and entrepreneurship
  • A lived experience perspective on childhood NHL

Participants from across Europe — including Italy, Germany, Austria, Poland and the Czech Republic — contributed to a dynamic, collaborative atmosphere. The event also facilitated planning for the network’s future activities and informal networking, including a traditional punting trip along the River Cam.

FANTOM is pleased to support student involvement in initiatives like yNHL, which provide valuable platforms for training, collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of childhood and young adult lymphoma research
