Validation of bypass mechanisms of resistance to ALK TKIs in ALCL
I study a type of blood cancer where the cancer cells depend on a broken signal inside them that tells them to keep growing all the time. There are special drugs designed to block that signal, and they can be very effective at first because they basically ‘turn off’ the cancer’s main growth switch. The problem is that some cancer cells manage to survive by switching to other signals or pathways to keep growing. I use genetic tools to figure out which genes allow the cancer cells to make this switch. Then I test combinations of treatments to block both the main signal and these backup pathways, so the cancer has fewer ways to escape and the treatment works longer.
