As part of the FANTOM EU project, I spent two weeks at CBmed in Graz, working on image analysis within the field of spatial proteomics, which was recently named Method of the Year 2024. During this secondment, I had the opportunity to collaborate with two mentors from different backgrounds, whose combined expertise provided valuable interdisciplinary support and enriched both the technical and analytical aspects of the work.
It was a refreshing experience to transition from academia into an industry environment, and it was encouraging to see that the skills I’m developing during my PhD are applicable in an industrial setting. I’m grateful to the FANTOM EU project for promoting collaborations like this and enabling access to the latest technologies in a supportive, professional environment — which, in my case, laid a strong foundation for further tissue microenvironment analysis.
