Stefania Massari

Introduction

Hi, I’m Stefania!

I’m a PhD candidate at the Medical University of Vienna, where I explore how cancer rewires metabolism — and how we can turn those changes into therapeutic opportunities. My research focuses on Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL), an aggressive cancer that mainly affects children and young adults and still lacks effective treatment options.

A Bit About My Work
I’m particularly fascinated by how metabolic changes contribute to the transformation of normal T cells into malignant ones in ALCL. My current project dives into the role of STAT proteins — key oncogenic drivers in this disease — and how they regulate metabolic pathways. By integrating genome-wide approaches (such as STAT binding profiles, histone modifications, chromatin accessibility, and transcriptomics) with metabolomics, we’re working to uncover novel therapeutic vulnerabilities. A key aim of our project is also to build a publicly available, comprehensive genomic resource for the ALCL research community.

Outside the Lab…
When I’m not chasing cells or analyzing data, you’ll likely find me in a pilates or pottery class, hiking through the Austrian Alps, devouring thrillers, or spontaneously booking wild vacations, because life’s too short not to!
