Secondments
In the summer of 2024, I had an amazing opportunity to join Suzanne Turner’s lab at the University of Cambridge as a part of a secondment within the EU Fantom project. Turner lab has established a patient-derived xenograft (PDX) model of ALK-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), which gave me access to fresh tumor samples. With the aim of establishing 3D organoid-like ALCL model, these tumors were cultured in optimized culture conditions and characterized. Furthermore, we collaborated and discussed topics such as drug resistance, CRISPR screen methods and various bioinformatics skills such as analysis of RNA sequencing data and CRISPR screen data. With the help of Carla, a Fantom student in the Turner lab, I gained experience in flow cytometry and attended a workshop on analyzing flow cytometry data. The overall experience and knowledge during these two months have been fundamental for my further work on drug resistance and epigenetics in ALCL and has formed a basis for future collaborations within the Fantom network. I am very grateful to be a part of an EU-funded project with so many opportunities to grow as a scientist, but also as an individual!
